Not drinking with dinner

Somebody asks What are some options for non-alcoholic drinks at a fine restaurant?, and half the people suggest Shirley Temples and other mocktails so that it can look like they’re having a “real” drink. Who drinks a cocktail with dinner? More proof, if proof be need be, that Americans have no class.
